Amongst the most piling up concern is whether the next generation of sailors are aware of the new technological advancements and whether they are equipped and possess the knowledge for the future ships and trades.
There are many aspects to this, but perhaps key is how do we attract the next generation of leading maritime professionals to this industry exhibiting humungous changes. How do we measure that they have the skill and attitude to embrace the challenging opportunities lying ahead in their journey?
Through our community portal we strive to present the positive image of maritime opportunities. Merchant shipping is the backbone of International trade. It universally functions in the most adverse of times. Covid-19 pandemic has shown us the great potential on power of our Industry. This is the attestation to the ships crew who go about their work quietly, professionally and often invisibly.
Today’s cadets and Junior Officers need to be conditioned to look forward to challenges and we are creating platform to support them in meeting the same. Ships are bigger and regulations and requirements are more demanding with advancements in many ways. Sailors come from a society which has also undergone a transformational change. Today’s youth demand greater consideration of welfare, equal opportunities and support for career progression as well as safety and security. Leadership, empathy, support, mentoring of others are all attributes that are important along with technical skills required to operate the ships.
One of the areas of focus is also to provide berths and training opportunities for new entrants to our great industry. A tiny investment will create a lifetime of opportunity for the aspiring seafarers, their families, for the company they will work and off course for the industry as a whole. Such initiatives will shape the Industry leaders of tomorrow.
